MELINA PEÑA // EMPREMTA 2017 FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE PERFORMANCE

Artista Interdisciplinar / de Acción de la frontera EE.UU/México con base en Barcelona, España. Su investigación corporal la ha llevado por un extenso entrenamiento en Butoh, Danza Experimental, Body Landscape y Arte de Acción. Master en Programa de Estudios Independientes (PEI) por el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Barcelona (MACBA). Posgrado en Lenguaje Sensorial y Poética del Juego por el Teatro de los Sentidos/ Universidad de Girona. Doble licenciatura en ¨World Arts & Cultures¨ y Lingüística & Español por la Universidad de California, Los Ángeles EE.UU.

En los últimos 15 años Melina ha estado produciendo y exhibiendo su trabajo en lugares como en la Bienal de Cerveira, PAN Pallazo delle Arti Nápoles, Bienal de Venecia, Galerie Taiss, La Cité Internationale des Arts de París, etc. He sido invitada a residencias artísticas en Alemania, México, Portugal, Inglaterra y España; colaborado con artistas como La Pochanostra, Shu Lea, Thierry Geoffrey y artistas de diferentes disciplinas.

Melina busca el compromiso a una constante relación con el espectador, creando arte mediante la crítica y el juego. Su trabajo es mayoritariamente motivado por el proceso, creando espacios que ofrezcan oportunidades y experiencias para reflexionar y negociar entre una implicación cultural, física y emocional. Actualmente sus intereses han mutado en la experimentación con otros medios artísticos que buscan generar la estimulación y nuevas formas de lenguaje corporal, tales como: Arte Sonoro, Psico-geografía , Instalación y el juego a través de los sentidos.

We’ve become a multi-body that must develop many skills and have the ability to change, resolve and accumulate information in accordance with the requirements of this world functioning as a service provider. We are in a constant endurance and opposition against this force imposed on us, we are repeatedly going from RESISTANCE to efficiency.

I was invited to work with SALT, which led me to its healing effects and the design of an encapsulated space inspired by science fiction and its narratives about the future with hints of indigenous shamanistic rituals from southern Mexico.
Melina is a CHAMANA in the Future!

My space and body configured by triangles that create a certain symmetry from macro to micro are charged by my mental fears and the ones written by the spectators. I Seek balance and relationship of the mind with matter through a journey that leads me through memory, imagination and dreams, trying to decode reality until fully drained.
